Is a car useful?Depends on your base. Drake Bay is usually reached by boat or plane and a car is useless there. Puerto Jiménez works with a 4x4 in dry season.Not required. Shuttles connect Monteverde with La Fortuna, San José and the Pacific coast, and most tours include pickup. If you do drive, higher clearance is welcome on the final approach.
